Charles is a 1977 graduate of the Recording Institute of Detroit Recording Engineering program. He was the owner of Gospel Sound and received a Billboard Platinum award for the design and construction of the Platinum Sound Studios facilities in Atlanta, Georgia. In 2004, Charles received the Motown Achievement award presented by Bob Dennis. Charles is multi talented and a accomplished rhythm guitar and steel guitar player. He also wrote "Jump for Joy" for the world renown Campbell Brothers. Charles was inducted into the Sacred Steel Hall of Fame in 2014.
