Could I assume the C11 chord be at the first fret also...

Yes, C11 at fret 1, but you will rarely, if ever, strum across all of the strings and play an 11th chord. I don't think I've ever played an 11th chord in a song! The best way to think of the tuning... it's a combination tuning. The upper part of it is A6 and lower part of it is B, B7, B9. The top 4 strings are tuned to A6. If you skip string 1, you have B9 on the bottom 5 strings.

E
C#
A
F#
D#
B

Strings:

1,2,3 = A major
1,2,3,4 = A6
2,3,4 = F#m
1,2,3,4 = F#m7

4,5,6 = B major
3,4,5,6 = B7
2,3,4,5,6 = B9
1,2,3,4,5,6 = B11

Hi Frank,

Thanks for the info and I am going to set up a Ric Bakelite to the B11 six string Doug mentioned.

What string gauges are recommended for the six string B11 tuning?

Andy, what scale length was that intended for?

Thanks.

I just retune from C6, using normal C6 gauges. Only one string needs to be raised (C to C#). Three other strings are lowered, so there's no issue with string breakage.

I have free B11 tab for an original tune of mine on my blog. Also a video of me playing it. Makes a good practice exercise. I use low C# (instead of B) on the tune ---> http://playsteelguitar.com/557-2/

The song "All My Ex's Live In Texas" works really good with the B11 tuning.

Here's a B11 chart for Sweet Georgia Brown. I converted from C11. If there's any errors let me know.
I sing this in "D", that's why the key is so weird.

Enjoy!

Nice job, Michael. "Sweet Georgia Brown" is a great song for B11!

Thanks Doug!
I re-uploaded page two. No wrong notes just wrong fret board pattern.

I thought I would take stab at making a video of the "Sweet Georgia Brown"arrangement. The only difference is I'm playing it in C11.
