I'm selling my 64 Emmons wrap. It is everything it should be. Rebuilt and recovered by Mike Cass. I have the original mica and case.

8 pedals 6 Levers

#1164013

$10,000

I can bring it to the Dallas show.

Bob was a very motivated to sell, Barrett is not in a hurry to sell, and I am more interested in keeping mine then selling it... this was a great price for this guitar too...

That is a picture of a block that was put in to brace the changer. The earliest Emmons steels had a different way of attaching the changer to the body. I'll take more pictures of it and show what I mean by early next week. I'm out of town for a day or two. There are peculiarities about each one these very first Emmons push pulls and I will do my best to make sure whoever buys this one knows as much as possible about it.

Yes but remember guys; Bob's was a 1964 Wraparound; that is a FIRST YEAR Emmons. I would pay thousands more for a '64 than a '65 any day. Bob should of had this for 15,000 at least...but it sold before I could tell him...and I know this and I'm a SHO~BUD man...ha...

mine is '65 and I'm asking $15,000 for it, if it was 1964 I wouldn't take a penny under $18K ... I don't really sweat about selling mine, if it doesn't sell now, it will be worth more next year Very Happy

I hope the price on these Emmons push/pull steel guitars just keeps climbing. I have some that I could sell, but I won't ship them, that's for sure. Tommy......

It is funny to me how some people think wrap arounds are expensive, when at the same time acoustics, fiddles, banjos, mandolines etc... go for $10.000 , $12.000 , $20.000 or more any day of the week...you dont see dumb comments like "is that a typo" ,"is that price for three" etc...on the ad for $20,000 guitar...wrap around is the first Emmons ever built, there is probably not much more then 20 left in existence , and yet, some people still think they should be selling for peanuts...funny

I guess it is a fair price but now only Rock Stars and very well paid surgeons and dentists from NYC can afford these things. Not "musicians". That goes for the vintage guitars, fiddles, etc.

that is just the fact of life, not everyone can afford 1966 Corvette either, but does that mean that those who can, shouldn't? I live in 30' camper, and drive 10 year old Pontiac, I have no mortgage or car payment,or even a single credit card, but that's how I like it, I spend my money on traveling around the world, and my guitars, to each his own...there is plenty great, affordable steel guitars out there for anyone who wants to play...

That's a beauty and would love to have it. That said, if you look at the construction, parts and pieces, other than Mike Cass's great set up work, I can't see it sounding and playing much different from a more recent model split tail. We anal retentive steel players hyper focus on the small stuff and bling.

....but still wish I had it as I suffer from the same incurable disease. Congrats to the lucky buyer. Sad for you Bob Hofnar

I'm going to miss it quite a bit. There actually is something very different about the tone of it. It's the only wrap around I've ever gotten to know. Once I got out in a honkytonk with it that machine just came to life.

Wraparounds are a very special Emmons steel. Not only are they historic as arguably the first compact, stable and sustaining steel, they have a tone that is to some ears, the holy grail of pure Emmons. I have had two wraparounds and three bolt ons. For me the bolt on is too much to reign in...almost too powerful sounding. I found that when you play a bolt on in the sun, it's a battle to keep it in tune. My main wraparound is very stable and sounds, well...amazing. If you value all that a wraparound has to offer, Bob's steel is a bargain! My $.02

I'm kind of dumb on this and know very little about PP guitars.
What is an Emmons wrap and why worth so much?
While we are at it, what is a fat back?
Not saying the price is too high, I have no idea, Just wanting to educate myself about it.
Thanks.

I have a '65 single 10 wraparound. I've never AB'd it with a D10 wrap, but I have with my bolt ons. Very different animal. I agree with TC - the wrap is more subtle and even. More nuanced. The bolt on is sheer power. All this being said, bolt ons are my fave . They just speak to me when I'm playing them. At least the two I own.
