Yeah, and even coming through computer speakers, it sounds pretty close to what it might have sounded like in the room. _________________ Steel Guitar Books! Website: www.volkmediabooks.com |

That's very nice. The sound is just lovely. I couldn't help checking out some of the other videos. I especially liked his rendering of Tenderly. From his daughter's interview, I also learned that Noel did sound effects for the War of the Worlds movie.
So much valuable information available these days and all this music is just fabulous. Thanks. |

Boggs, Murphey, West... The music coming out of the Promised Land in that era was astounding. Very little of Nashville's formulated cookie cutter sound could ever rival those records from early postwar Hollywood.
Boggs' version of "Tenderly" is a high water mark. Does anyone know what tuning(s) he was using on that tune? I know he played one of Leo's early quads. Was he switching between the necks? |

Those YouTubes are not to be seen for this corner of the globe, as the news are getting worse. |

I believe Mike Neer has a tab of this tune on one of his blogs. That chord in the second bar is killer. I think Mike had it down as a string pull. |

Excellent post Andy. Thanks my vinyl records are under the house. Haven't heard this one in years. Noel Boggs was one very clever man! |

Thanks for posting Andy - I can never get enough of Boggs' tone and attack. It's bright and articulate but warm and full at the same time. There is a secret sauce in the midrange that I can't quite put my finger on even though I have tried to find the EQ notch many times. For me, his is the ultimate tone. |

Yep, Tim. There's a kind of twangy airiness to his sound that's somewhat mysterious coming from that pre-reverb era. His blocking technique is very subtle as well and it contributes to that great tone. _________________ Steel Guitar Books! Website: www.volkmediabooks.com |
