I think I counted 8 forum members below the age of 40. The majority are mid 50's to 80+. I had my youngest son with me at the St Louis Convention about 10 years ago. He was around 28yrs old at the time. He looked around the room and asked me, "how long will this convention survive? Everybody is old". _________________ 1976 Birdseye U-12 MSA with Telonics 427 pickup, 1975 Birdseye U-12 MSA with Telonics X-12 pickup, Boss 59 Fender pedal for preamp, NDR-5 Atlantic Delay & Reverb, two Quilter 201 amps, 2- 12" Eminence EPS-12C speakers, ShoBud Pedal, 1949 Epiphone D-8. 62, been playing steel for less than 1 year, hope to have some decent chops by the time I hit eighty, should I make it that far... am enjoying the journey, regardless. _________________ Chromatic Harmonica, Guitar, and Pedal Steel (Williams U12 Series 700, Emmons lap)

Just turned 60 last week. Yesterday, my steel playing sounded great. When I was in my 50's...not so much _________________ "The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over." |

I saw the pictures of the players at the recent SWSGA convention in the event announcements section, and thought the exact same thing.
Perhaps the reason is that so many players insist on playing 45 year old music. Young people want to hear and play music of their generation. Playing SG Rag and A way to survive" all the time is a way to cause younger people to lose interest in our instrument. _________________ Please visit my web site and Soundcloud page and listen to the music posted there.

No way! Everything I played was at least 55 years old. On a positive note, most of it was less than 290 years old. |

Hi Doug. I got you beat. My Bourrée was written 500 years ago, back in the 16th century, by a man named Michael Praetorius.

Anybody ever think of selling prunes to forum members? Seriously, I too seen the pictures from the Phoenix show and with the exception of a couple of players, it looked a lot like a jam session at a local senior center. Not a thing wrong with that, other than the pedal steel guitarist is not on the endangered species list.
