I think I counted 8 forum members below the age of 40. The majority are mid 50's to 80+. I had my youngest son with me at the St Louis Convention about 10 years ago. He was around 28yrs old at the time. He looked around the room and asked me, "how long will this convention survive? Everybody is old". Sad

62, been playing steel for less than 1 year, hope to have some decent chops by the time I hit eighty, should I make it that far... am enjoying the journey, regardless.

Just turned 60 last week. Yesterday, my steel playing sounded great. When I was in my 50's...not so much

I saw the pictures of the players at the recent SWSGA convention in the event announcements section, and thought the exact same thing.

Perhaps the reason is that so many players insist on playing 45 year old music. Young people want to hear and play music of their generation. Playing SG Rag and A way to survive" all the time is a way to cause younger people to lose interest in our instrument.

No way! Everything I played was at least 55 years old. On a positive note, most of it was less than 290 years old.

Hi Doug. I got you beat. My Bourrée was written 500 years ago, back in the 16th century, by a man named Michael Praetorius.

Anybody ever think of selling prunes to forum members? Laughing Seriously, I too seen the pictures from the Phoenix show and with the exception of a couple of players, it looked a lot like a jam session at a local senior center. Not a thing wrong with that, other than the pedal steel guitarist is not on the endangered species list.
