Let's get a "go fund me started", for Joe Wright to get on America's Got talent.

I cannot think of a grander idea, to get our lovely Pedal Steel Guitar into the mainstream of America.

It would do wonders for our industry, our instructors & each of us as well.

I would hope, that he would gladly show the world his great talents.

Joe is fantastic, no doubt. But why would he need a Go Fund Me page? Doesn't he just have to land an audition and make a great impression? Or are you thinking one has pay baksheesh to get the audition in the first place...?

Joe is better than terrific... but to go an audition is NOT Free, at least at the beginning. I'm hoping that we can get him to the 1st stage, he will get himself to the next stages, but we will be there to insure it doesn't cost him a dime.

Ok, makes sense. He would probably need some travel support to get to/from the auditions unless they're coming to his town. Not sure where Joe is living these days or if this is evening something that would hold any interest for him at all...

I've never seen "America's Got Talent" or any TV talent show but I have seen Joe Wright perform. He certainly would walk away with the big prize on any talent show - anywhere. I'm convinced if Mr. Wright had performed in the 50's he would have been a major star like Grandpa Jones - Stringbean - Bashful Brother Oswald - Salty Jones We are very lucky be able to catch his act in these times. Needless to say - Mr. Wright is a very strong picker and singer along the lines of someone like Merle Travis who also did comedy. Why are the acts today so serious about themselves? Back in the day - comedy was a big part of any act in any genre.

At this stage of his stellar career - would Joe actually want to be associated with a talent quest ?? he has nothing to prove - other than the exposure I guess I can't see any benefits for him ! unless they pay out a huge dollop of cash of course hehe

If Joe himself put the request out there then I might be tempted to help out, but if he has not even mentioned being interested in trying out for the show.....

A person can submit a video audition from the privacy of their own home studio!

Just-a-thought-- Robert Kramer said somthing bout talent contests and if I remember correctly one of our members on the forum here won a talent contest back in, I believe, in the 50's. Jody Carver won the Ted Mac Amateur Hour and went on to play in the band.Worked for yrs with Leo Fender @ FENDER Guitar and today is in our Steel Guitar Hall Of Fame. But I always wondered how many kids, back in the day, did he influence with the steel guitar being at the center of attention on coast to coast national TV. Just-a-thought

Mr Foy, let me correct you, Jody Carver won the Arthur

Godfrey show which was a show that had to have people who had a backround of where and when they had performed

hence it was not show for anyone with out that backround

I have the cd saved as it was February 7th 1955 where

Jody won that show Hands down Coast to Coast on CBS, he was with Fender long before he won that show, He was 25 years Young!

I hope this helps he also won Chance of a Lifetime which was Dennis James Television show... that too was for pros and not beginners

I can't imagine Mr. Wright interested in being on Talent Scouts.
These shows are geared to guiding/grooming, by unnatural selection, young voices into the mainstream of what is popular.
I would love to see him play myself, but not on Ted Mack's Amateur Hour.

Think of how surreal the entire process would be for Joe.
Fortunately, no one will be reading this as a serious matter.

These TV talent extravaganzas are geared to making huge piles of cash for those who put them on, NOT the contestants. Obviously, Joe already knows better and the rest of us need to wake up... Shocked

I note with interest, but without surprise, that Joe himself hasn't chimed in here.

Charlie and Barry hit the mark here.

the issue I have with this is he doesn't need to be treated like a clown in a 3 ring circus - entertain me for 2 minutes then leave with a new gimmick each time.

I have seen youtube videos of Joe and he is good enough to play and release his own material.

What is missing to raise the profile of steel guitar is the Marketing, booking and management of artists.

Whether we like it or not - the only mainstream public personality that is associated with Steel guitar now is Robert Randolph.

It helps if you are willing to sing and write originals.

I know artists like Ben Harper and the many clones that follow are there but they are known more so as songwriters than musicians alone.

I think Robert Randolph is the only mainstream one known who sings (be it not that great) but plays extremely well.

So what I think would need to happen to assist Joe to be "pop"

Music Videos
half naked women
modern take on music mainly originals
heavy backbeat
Gym Membership

Sand I think we can all agree if he did this we would be the first ones to create a post about "Selling Out"

I think he is awesome without America's got talent and so do ALL of you. Just accept he or anyone else you really respect won't fall into the current mainstream.

Whoa! Whoa!

What is Joe up to? Is he scheduled for any shows.

He is the best but for various reasons he has largely dropped off the radar screen. I saw him at two shows in Missouri and Illinois last year and he was great but haven't heard if he has anything schedule for this year.

Joe was the first "teacher" I had on my Rogue Lapsteel thru the Sierra site, and I learned a lot from him, even to this day re-watching the videos. Doug's books got me to a playing level for folks, but Joe taught me the basics of steel theory in a way even I could understand....

I hope he did not drop off the scene for good, the music world has lost way too many good players lately, be they Steel, Drums, Bass, or Vocals. Sad

Does Joe have any interest in appearing on one these shows? I very much doubt it.
