Here are a couple tunes from the big band I play in. It's a lot of fun playing with so many musicians - especially guys as good as these guys are.

The chord changes can be crazy challenging, but from playing in this band my Texas Swing comping chops have really improved.
Only downside is I have to wear a tux! |

Thanks for the musical accompaniment to my morning coffee, David - great band My parents played lots of big band albums when I was growing up and I always enjoyed it. Being on stage with that "wall of brass" must be a real kick! |

Yeaboy! Good on Tim for the big band stuff. What a group of musicians. Must be a thrill to get to do this.
We opened a show for Tim's country act at Louisville's Fourth Street Live a few years after Little Texas disbanded. Hadn't heard much since and didn't know he was doing this big band stuff.
Thanks for posting this. I enjoy all your guitar videos, David. I think I could put up with the tux if I had the chance to play this kind of music...plus it adds a touch of class |

David as much as I tried, I couldn't hear you. I'm no expert on this kind of music, I have to say, so maybe it's normal that the guitar is so low in the mix. _________________ Fender Kingman, Sierra Crown D-10, Evans Amplifier, Soup Cube. |

Joachim, I hear ya (irony intended). Go to this link on Freddie Green style rhythm playing and scroll down to the VOLUME section.

Playing rhythm guitar in a big band is not a gig for someone who wants to be out front in the mix. But I can tell you, sitting there chunking on those chords in the midst of all those players is an absolutely magical experience. |

Interesting: the guitar should be felt not heard. But how did you hear yourself? Was your amp close by? _________________ Fender Kingman, Sierra Crown D-10, Evans Amplifier, Soup Cube. |

I was sitting in front of a Fender Twin, so I heard myself fine. I also was using AudioFly AF180 in ear monitors. I have them in one ear only so that I hear the live stage mix in one ear, and can have the sound guys turn up the things I really want to follow (e.g. kick drum, high hat, vocals, keys, and my guitar) in the in-ear. |
