Hey Jerry,

I'd love to share the details of the products used in my finishing procedure. Probably best to just give me a call; this ain't no instant spray can finish..haha. My Dad was a piano finisher, and I was a furniture finisher and touch up expert while I was in college and Grad School. I've done many fine furniture and instrument finishes and restorations including classic French polishing techniques (this is not that). Using the most appropriate finish and productis important, but so are the techniques employed. Happy to talk privately to share. To quote the great Tommy Hannum:..not rocket science. Hahaha

Here is a tip: Brace and block the cabinet to hold the same dimensions and shape as before cabinet is de-constructed...unless its racked or warped..(which is a related but separate repair). Then the stripping sanding and finishing can be started.

Best to all

Hi Jerry (Overstreet)

Yes the entire cabinet is fairly thin birdseye veneer over rock maple. Some of em are only veneered on the aprons. Damage to the veneer would be a whole other ball of wax, and I don't think I can cover that in detail here, but suffice it to say; if its bad enough then a re-veneer job would be in order...and certainly do-able.

Special Thanks to Billy Knowles at Steel guitars East, who has always been a source of help, information, expertise, encouragement and parts parts parts! Thanks also to all who chimed in with kind words.

The guitar has a beautiful and very big voice.. I really like it. The midrange overtones are slightly shifted to the mids more than than the upper and hi mids of a metal neck. The note release is very snappy and powerful across the strings and is very balanced. Sustain is excellent. Highs are brilliant but very sweet with emphasis on primaries.. Bottom end is punchy with snap with emphasis on big primary tones. Grind or rip and overtones are more prevalent in the mids. Can't find any dead spots, and it sings and sustains all the way up into Hughey-land. Cool.
