I put a split on my F# string 1.
Pedal 2 raises +1 to G
Pedal 4 lowers -2 to E

So my split rod went on pedal 4 to raise the note to F when pedals 2 and 4 were depressed. OK everything hunky dory.

Now for some reason when i depress pedals 2 and 4 the note needs to be lowered to make an F note. Maybe string gauge different. Should i run a rod from pedal 2 to lower note then?

Here's the physics that make splits annoying: it will take more travel to raise F# to G than it does to raise E to F (or to lower G to F# than it does to drop F to E. Tighter strings react less than slacker ones).

Add a rod on P4 to the raise scissor of the string as well as the lowering scissor.
Tune the 4 notes in this order, as the order matters.
Tune the F#, then the G of P2, then add P4 and use the lowering nut on P4 to tune the F. THEN release P2, and the E should now be flat, tune the P4 E with the RAISE nut of P4.

Bloody marvellous!

That was it. Somehow I'd forgotten how to tune them. Thanks sooo much for taking the time Lane.

It's like baking. The process is as important as the ingredients
