Nicely done Doug.
I bought my first Shadows record , "The Rise and Fall of Flingal Bunt" in '65 or so . They got some airplay up here in Canada. Still a fan , just started playing "Spring is Nearly Here" .

| Guys, I'm showing my ignorance but how does "plate reverb" differ from reverb? Growing up in Pittsburgh, we did hear The Shadows music as well as The Ventures. Though I did not play guitar until much later, I enjoyed the music of both groups. Stevet |

Plate reverb was a huge piece of sheet metal mounted in a frame. I'm not sure of the technical details, but I think an audio signal was sent to the plate, causing it to vibrate (reverberate) and there were some kind of transducers or mics on the plate that would pick up the sound and send it to the recorder. They produced a very deep, full reverb, depending on how the dampers on the plate were set. I think plate reverbs are still being made today.

Another good one Doug. You seem to be on the Shadows trip at the moment. These are the tunes I have been playing since the 60's. Yes Hank Marvin was my hero.

Hello Mike, I know The Shadows, but we have a group from Sweden, The Sputniks you maybe heard of them. That was my first guitar group, then Shadows and of cause The Ventures. I grow up of that type of music.

Thanks Doug. I always enjoy your vids which tempts the question - of all the single neck lap steels you have, which if any is your favourite?
Yes, Sputnicks and Ventures - remember them well. I may even still have a Sputnicks vinyl somewhere. Must have a look. Those years were the best for music - but then I would say that - my teenage years.

Mick, as far as my lap steels, my favorite 8-string is the Emmons. It has a lot of sustain and tone, probably due to the mahogany body, the huge metal nut and bridge, the strong pickup, and the 24 1/4" scale length (same as Emmons pedal steels). My favorite 6-string lap steel is my Gibson Century 6. I like the short scale and wide string spacing... it makes for easier bar slants. And the guitar really growls. Picking hard or softly produces different tones on that guitar, and I like that.
