Anybody use a '59 Fender Bassman Reissue for pedal steel? Not sure if this is a good option?

| I remember seeing somewhere that Tom Brumley was using a pair of Reissue Bassmans. This would be 10 or 15 years ago . Perhaps when he was with The Desert Rose Band. |

It's my favorite amp. I switched from a NV112 which sounded a little shrill to my ears. I remember reading the same thing about Tom Brumley using them as well. If I recall he had a removable baffle so he could switch from 4-10's to a single 15 set up.

Unfortunately both the original and reissue 5F6A Bassman has to be run at very high volume to open up, and drive both the output stage and speakers very well. At lower volume they are thin and reedy sounding, and horrid for pedal steel IMO.
*If* you can play loud and put good NOS tubes in it (and replace the stock speakers with Webers, Warehouse Guitar speakers or anything with less top-end bite than the ones Fender installs) it may be OK, but it would not be in my top-50 pedal steel amps. The only time I've heard them sound good at medium volume levels they've been re-voiced by a competent amp tech specifically to fatten up the sound.

I'm getting great results with the Boss FBM-1 59 Bassman pedal through a Quilter Tone Block 200 and BW 1501.

I have used a 59' Reissue Bassman for years. Took the 4-10's out and installed a JBL D-130. Never had a problem with it anywhere and I absolutely love the sound I can get out of it.
