My Goodrich is only two years old and I am going through a pot every seven or eight months and sometimes I have to rely on contact cleaner if I have a lot of gigs in a row and I don't have time to change the pot. I am really seeking suggestions as to what to do. What type of replacement pot will last the longest?
Thank you

I purchased one from Jerry Roller last year and haven't had an issue since. I don't recall what brand it was but he stocks them and I know others have been happy as well.

What pot are you currently using? Both the Dunlop Hot Potz and the new Goodrich pots last quite a while _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

When a player has problems with pots wearing out unusually fast, the first thing I ask is: "what do you usually hook it up to".
As even the slightest amount of DC over a moving pot tends to cause "crackle" and destruction, a leaking capacitor at the amp-input or other device following the VP, or the output of a pre-VP buffer unit, can lead to burned spots and rapid failure. Contact spray may help, but usually not for long.
The other cause for pot failures, is exposure to high humidity. Contact spray may help against the deposited film caused by humidity, but once the crackling starts it is usually too late to restore the pot with contact spray. |

Thanks for the responses. I am in contact with Jerry Roller and will probably go for the newly designed Goodrich pot.
Thanks again everybody

They can be fiddly to solder, and all the vendors on the forum are willing to solder leads onto them. I recommend taking advantage of this service. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Bradshaw, food for thought. There was a time this was happening to me. I discovered that I was in the bad habit of constantly sort of pumping the volume pedal. I had to break that habit. Pots began to last longer. Those were Allen bradleys and clarostats. |
