Here's my arrangement of the classic standard "Laura" in G/Em tuning on Dobro that's in my book "18 arrangements for Dobro & Weissenborn". I haven't played it for a while so it's a little heavy on the rubato (and the RCA - "Hey - I'm in a grain silo" - reverb).

One of my favorite tunes, haunting and smoky, it can be more challenging than than its initial impression.
I finally grasp the initial melody from your rendition, and I really like where you take some of the changes
--there are possibilities in this song--what a good bossa nova it would make.

Beautiful. Thanks.

This is a song I love to sing. The melody, with all its twists and turns, the enchanting, mysterious lyrics, the unexpected chords, just a great song.

It's particularly effective over the movie, taking advantage of the turns that the score can take, making advantage of the unknown but make even that so familiar, echoed in the lyrics. It holds the movie together, keeps the haunting.

One of my favorite versions to this day, Spike Jones. My hi school pal/sax player put if on, with the cover for the Air Force orchestra sitting out,
and it begins with this wash of big band chords, becoming a samba--oh heck, here it is.Laura.
However, this is not to be confused with Andy's music, which accomplishes with spaciousness what Spike was not able to.

Definitely one of the most beautiful and haunting of the film music standards. I first heard the tune in my college dorm when a kid sat down at the piano and played it. My musical taste was nowhere near that direction back then but it still got my attention and has stayed with me. Even though Mike Auldridge probably should get the credit for innovating the G/Emin tuning variation, Greg Booth really inspired me to explore it. Don MClean's Vincent and Just a Little Loving' Early in the Morning are other tunes I arranged in that tuning for the book..
