We were in Hilo a couple of weeks ago and had the good fortune to see Diana Aki and along with her was Dwight Tokumoto. He has a beautiful tone on his Rick frypan.

Those Rickenbackers can't be beat at getting the authentic Hawaiian sound and Dwight brings out the best in it with a nice arrangement of Blue Hawaiian Moonlight.

Beautiful touch and guitar.

What a nice touch and tone he has! His vibrato is very Byrd-like. The world needs more of this. Smile

Nice to see the Milkman amp up there, too!

Yes, but they are mostly of Diana Aki. Dwight only did the one solo.

I agree. That was beautiful. Too bad the audience wasn't paying attention. I think I heard one person clap.

Hi Bill, hope you are doing well.

There wasn't really an audience per se. They were providing entertainment at a big Christmas Holiday crafts fair at the convention center in Hilo, Hawai'i. Denise and I were in Hilo on vacation. I heard that there were going to be entertainers at the craft fair so I brought my camera and a monopod. They had three wooden benches set up in front of the stage enough for about 9 people. Everybody else was wandering the aisles shopping. They had the music on loudspeakers so it filled the huge space. It was like Hawaiian background music for Christmas shopping. Super fun!

One of the entertainers that came on later in the evening looked at us on the benches and referred to us as having tickets for the "Ace Hardware Seats".

Unfortunately there is no justice in the music biz! Sometimes a good player is completely ignored, and other times an audience will be totally captivated by a guy strumming two chords on a guitar, and not very well. Go figure. Confused

That was wonderful !!! Could listen to him all day long.
thanks for posting that.

Doug, I agree with you...I was at an event once where a classical guitar player did "recuerdos de la alhambra", and at the end a guy sitting there said that was pretty good, but can you play the "Wildwood Flower" ??!! Goes right along with what you were saying, Doug.

Dwight played at the 2016 Maui Steel Guitar festival which I attended last April, and like everyone here I was very impressed.
Go to "Maui Steel Guitar Festival" and click on "Gallery" then click on "Youtube channel" and scroll down.
Dwight was a featured player with the Pros.
Lot of background noise with those videos but you won't be disappointed with Dwight's playing, that beautiful sound still comes through.
