I had the pleasure of attending Joel Martins Pedal Steel Party last Tuesday.
http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=307553
The "band" was just Joel and a singer/songwriter/guitarist. No bass or drums.
The singer was above average. He sang well and played very well. But in my admittedly prejudiced opinion, he sounded like a million other guys.
Joel however, was terrific. This was not a country show. The singer was a rock and roller, who played blues-based leads with distortion. And Joel was right there with him (minus the distortion,) playing interesting and creative parts that did not involve the typical pedal mashing, except where it was appropriate.
Joel would attend our jams where he showed great potential, but had not really arrived yet. Well, he has now. He has evolved into a first class player. I'm proud of him.
Joel plays a ZB. After hearing him, I understand why folks love these guitars. Aside from his excellent playing, the guitar itself sounded wonderful. I wish my MSA sounded that sweet.
Joel holds his pedal steel guitar party every month. I urge everybody within driving distance to attend them. _________________ Please visit my web site and Soundcloud page and listen to the music posted there.

Joel is a great player. And a great guy. I wish I still had both of my ZB's. Great guitars. Before I leave this planet, I hope I can get one. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, NV400, NV112 . Playing for 54 years and still counting. |
