According to Wikipedia and CBS News, we have lost Gordie Tapp (of Hee Haw fame) at age 94. Lots of great steel guitar moments in that show. |

Gordy was from Canada and was very busy there for many years till Hee Haw came along. He spent his retirement winters in Florida for quite a number of years and worked a lot with the Canadian Snowbird Association doing shows in Canada and the "Sun Belt" of the U.S. during the winters. |

After reading my initial post I realize that I sort-of made it sound like Gordie was a steel player, which he was not (that I know of).
So, for anyone who doesn't recognize the name... Gordie Tapp was an actor and one of the original creative minds of the show Hee Haw, which frequently featured live bands containing most of the best steel players of all time. Correct me if I'm wrong... but I believe that Gordie was one of only a few individuals to appear in every episode over the show's 23-year run.
There... Was that better? |

I knew Gordie. He told me he played more characters on Hee Haw than anyone else. He was a fine gentleman and often used Steel Guitar in his performances. He was a fine singer but most known as a comedian and MC.
Gordie was also retired military, a Sergent Major I think. He could really belt out commands with a BIG booming voice.
RIP Cuzin Clem.

I met Gordie in Florida where he was doing a commercial for a loan company. He rode a big white horse and wore a black mask and called himself "The loan arranger " . He wrote a lot of comedy and had a great sense of humor. We are losing too many good ones... God speed Gordie. |

I worked with Gordy at the Hee Haw Theatre in Branson. Between Gordy and Archie Campbell, I laughed until I was sick. These guys were truly at the top in the business of entertaining. RIP my friends. Many, many, great memories. |
