I don’t think Jeff ever did a studio version of “The Last Letter” but I was lucky enough to have my cassette recorder going when he and Bob Browning did a killer version live at the 1981 ISGC. You can hear the song in its entirety HERE.

You can also hear the original rendition by Rex Griffin HERE. The two versions show the song has strong bones.

Jeff's solo begins at 2:00.

Killer Take! Just amazing how Jeff could take such basic fills and make them sound so unique. Touch , tone and intonation were superb.

This song was on one of Jeff's courses. Either The Chord Connection, or Bandstand Back Up. It is a Earnest Tubb number, it was done with Bob Browning at the studio in Watertown. Beautiful number and job by Jeff

Yes, it was on one of his courses, and thanks for the tab. He did not tab it or use it on a course, but Bob Browning sang it toward the end of the course. Jeff was talking to him about steels playing all the time, and not laying out. I just watched it about 3 weeks ago. I'll have to check and see which one it was. Bob said it was an old Ernest Tubb song. Again thank you for these tabs.

Yes, this is on Jeff's Bandstand Backup Course he did. It has Bob Browning singing it, and of course Jeff's doing all that he does so well. For information only. He does not give any tabs on it.

Thanks for the memory, Frank! I was there in 1981, watching and hearing this. Jeff proved over and over that beautiful music can be played on a minimal setup.
