What an amazing recording career he had.
Not to mention that he landed with the Marines on Iwo Jima...

I got one of those old "Box" stereos for Christmas when I was 13. You know the one where the speakers folded out from the sides and the turntable dropped down. Along with it was an Al Caiola record.
I wore that LP out. I still have it.

I had one of those stereos myself Ollin.
Rest in peace Mr. Caiola. Truth is I hadn't thought about him in years, didn't know he was still around. He lived to be 96 so he didn't get gypped.
I miss the days when instrumentals were a big deal and all over the radio, Al Caiola was one of the leading dudes.
I remember listening to this album, one of my older brothers owned it:

I'll always think of him as the guy who played the theme songs for almost every western you watched on the television in the 50s and 60s.

He played on all the old Fraternity label rock n roll sessions. One of my heroes. Been a hard year. Thanks for the memories, Al. |
