It is with a saddened heart that I report that Roger Beck has passed Sept. 26.
Roger was a longtime Austin player and band leader.
For more than 60 years, Beck has been a Texas Swing guitarist and bandleader. In the photo below is Beck, at the mike and on rhythm guitar, with his group the Buckaneers.
Roger Beck has performed with many other legendary Texas musicians, too, including fiddle players Johnny Gimble, Leon “Pappy†Selph, and Cotton Collins; vocalist Leon Rausch; and steel guitarist Herb Remington. In 2005, he was inducted into the Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame.

Great pic there, Roy. Roger was a repository of country music history of Austin and central Texas. He always had stories to tell while you were in his barber chair. Loved hearing him speak of the old clubs, especially the Skyline where he'd seen the likes of George Jones, Marty Robbins, Ray Price, etc. come and sit in with his band after they'd play their shows. R.I.P. Roger. |

Roger was a great friend and a true gentleman, elegant in his speech and demeanor. RIP, my friend.
I saw his name in today's obits, and wondered if it was he or someone with the same name. The ranks are thinning. _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.
Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? |
