On behalf of the Brisbane Steel Guitar Club, we express deepest sympathies to the family for the passing of our steel guitar brother Jim. Jim was a wonderful musician, mentor, guitarist and steel guitarist. RIP mate!! Tis a sad day but we say thankyou!

So shocked to learn of this sad loss to the steel guitar world.
My sincere sympathies to Del & their family & friends.
Jim faced his illness & treatments with endless courage & never lost his love for family, jazz & steel guitar.
I'm sure Heaven has just become a better place.
RIP Jim. Crying or Very sad

Very sad day indeed Jeff, Jim will be missed a lot at the Brisbane steel guitar club, and at the annual Steel guitar show as well.... I used to enjoy some indepth discussions with Jim on things Steel on my visits from across the ditch.

Condolences to his family.

Very saddened to hear this. He and I exchanged a few emails from time to time. Sincerest condolences to his many friends, his colleagues at the Brisbane Steel Guitar club and his family.

RIP Jim.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Jim but from the shirt he's wearing in the photo, I have an inkling as to his personality..

Didin't Jim also have something to do with a pedals steel forum in one of the "Down Under" cities? I recall running across such a forum several years ago and found it informative.

Condolences to friends and family.

G'day Steve, Correct, Jim was the webmaster for Steel Guitar Down Under & will be sorely missed.
http://www.steelguitardownunder.com/
He was passionate about maintaining our steel history, & flying the flag on all things steel, current in our great southern lands. i.e. Aust/NZ

Thanks for posting this Jeff as Jim certainly deserves a mention in Gone Home.
Jim was the webmaster of steelguitardownunder which is the only website I have seen dealing with the history of steel guitar in the southern hemisphere. He was an enormous wealth of knowledge which he was always happy to share.
I will treasure the emails that he sent to me over the years and being able to meet him and his extended family at the 2015 Brisbane Steel Guitar Festival where he was backing Jay Dee Maness was great.
We are all going to miss him as he was such a great guy.
He was a big Buddy Holly fan back in the day and in his opinion that era of music was his favourite so I would like to share this photo off his steelguitardownunder website of him from 1960

Check out Jim's site that Allen gives above. There are two tabs and MP3s done by Sam Conomo that Include Far Wes (Wes Montgomery) and TakeFive (Dave Brubeck). Great stuf there.

The photo of Jim holding that archtop and sporting a major smile says a lot. Stevet
