That's awesome, guys! Thank you.
The CD will be reviewed in one of the major guitar magazines in the upcoming months and there will even be a pic of my ugly mug! I'll keep you posted.
I have a new website, too. Check it out: steelonious.com. It works great on mobile devices. And check out the cool T-shirt that's available. _________________ http://www.steelinstruction.com/

I received my copy yesterday. It's fantastic! I love every cut. One question:what effect(s) were you using on Bemsha Swing? _________________ "it's not in bad taste, if it's funny." - john waters |

I'm listening to it as I type on iTunes. Have receipt and everything. When I open it there is a blurb about it not being available in Canada but I've got it anyway. I am thinking it might be because my iTunes password is a direct threat of unpleasantries to the Apple Corp. 😉 |

I'm enjoying Steelonious immensely....as well as turning me on to Monk I love the various treatments of each tune.....every time I listen there's something new and a "Wow" factor.....
"Play To Express, Not Impress"......Mike, you've done both in such good taste...... |

I was just about to quote the guy on getting it, Andy, whether it was he or Mike. (Certainly, it's an album I could 'get.')
'The album is so good that....' I love reading this stuff. Talking about how he felt about Monk as a kid, same as I did.
Great review, good photograph, Mike. |

Hey steelers,I have just read the review by Marc Meyers, and he says: "Jazz isn't dead. You just have to look a little harder to find the real excitement and innovation. As Neer (and Sco) proves, jazz is just over that hill yonder."
Fantastic!!! |

To even be mentioned in the same sentence as my all-time favorite guitarist is mind-blowing to me. _________________ http://www.steelinstruction.com/

My CD was in the mailbox when I got home from a week away. But my CD player is boxed up. I will get a chance to play it in my car, next road trip (which may be tomorrow).
I mention this because of Mike's comments that the CD is a bunch phatter than the downloads. Can't wait. |

Definitely puts Mike up there with the other contemporary steel players that have recordings..Jeremy Wakefield, Gary Brandon, Lee Jefferiess etc
I drive an hour to work so I get a full uninterrupted listen there and back........ _________________ www.deluxe34.com lap steel stands, Clinesmith, Gibson Console Grande, Northwesterns, The Best Westerns

Just had the opportunity to listen to the album for the first time in its entirety. Absolutely excellent and entertaining. Mr. Neer is a pro in every sense of the word. I am glad I could contribute in a very small way. I would love to see this combination live performing these numbers. Mr. Neer, would you please let us know of any upcoming venues regarding public performances? |

I was listening to the record in the car this morning after not hearing it for a few weeks. It holds up! Mike, you somehow managed to make it all things ... accessible to jazz fans and regular listeners alike, plenty of great steel guitar playing for steel-centric fans and an eclectic lounge vibe for the hipsters. _________________ Steel Guitar Books! Yeah, there's plenty to hear after a first listening; one could get into piano parts alone. Great stuff.
I think 'Steelonious' was the correct concept. (Duh, he says, following it's success....) I KNOW Monk would love it. And it's beyond Monk. |

Thanks so much, everyone!
Got some radio airplay last night on the Fort Collins based radio station KRFC on the show Mountain Standards Time. He actually played two songs from the CD. The best part about it is I didn't have to pay someone to get some radio play!

The vision of the project is probably the most amazing to me. I figured Mike would have some killer solos (which he does) and some cool licks but it's so much deeper than that. I've said it before, but this recording points out ..Mike you are far more than a great steel player , your a great musician playing the steel. |
Indeed!
What an amazing album Mike! Utterly fantastic playing and simply great music!
Thanks!

Thanks everyone!
The recording has been selling pretty well, although I have no idea how many digital downloads have sold, since Amazon, iTunes, etc. only report on a monthly to 3 month basis.
Steelonious has been in the Top 50 or so Hot New Jazz Releases for over a week now, and just today when I checked it was at number 9 for Jazz Best Sellers! That blows my mind. It updates hourly, so it could be higher or lower, but it's up there.
I never really intended for it to be a Jazz record, but if it somehow eases non-Jazz listeners into Monk, Coltrane, etc., than I did what I set out to do. We all know how few records Jazz sells, and the Jazz purists might not take kindly to a record like this, but my job is just to make the music the way I hear it--the rest is out of my hands. _________________ http://www.steelinstruction.com/

Before I buy the download – will there be a vinyl edition with a download code in the future? Because I'd be more interested in that …
Thanks and congrats to this fantastic production (as far as I can judge by listening to the snippets)! _________________ My YT channel: www.youtube.com/user/madsteffen |
