I was not at all pleased with my prior attempt at restoring this Kline,,,so, after seeing the beautiful red one that was for sale a few weeks ago, decided to build a new cabinet. Fully intending to make it red,,,now that I've done the inlay and started sanding out,,,I'm really impressed by the natural look of the tiger stripe maple (doesn't show up too good in the pics). Opinions????

When I get this one finished it will probably be for sale,,,I will keep the one I have that was previously owned by Jeff Newman and played on the 1983 ISGC.

Sonny, you have more persistence than I would. Good for you.

I think if it were mine, I'd do it in an amber color rather than natural. The tiger stripe would still stand out nicely.

Continued good luck with the Kline. steve t

Thanks Steve,,,of course, it will be a little darker when lacquered, very much the shade of Jeff's old guitar (pictured below) maybe not as yellow since this finish is almost 34 years old. I know when we attempt to stain for "just a wee bit of color" it is very easy (and likely) to get "blotchy",,,(speaking from experience,,,LOL)

Sonny, I like the idea of an amber or purple like Robbie Primm's Emmons. Let the grain still show.

Yes, I'm doing some experimenting with shades of red,,,and trying to find a positive way of keeping the stain off the inlay.

I think I have the parts for a 7 pedal 6 knee set up. Maybe if it sells before the set up I can configure to a buyer's specific copedent.

Sonny, that's a fine-looking cabinet. You do nice work!

Your project is particularly interesting to me because I am toying with the idea of having a new cabinet made for a mica Kline S-10 I picked up a while back that has a fairly large split in the body. For tint I think I'd go for amber or possibly two-tone like Jeff's. One thing that's making me hesitate is that the steel doesn't have a vertical KL. I am hoping to find one.

I'm looking forward to seeing updates as your project progresses!

HI SONNY,

I am in the minority here, since I would finish that guitar body in a Natural Clear Coat finish.
It would be a SIN to cover up that Beautiful Natural Wood Grain. Smile

Well,,as of about an hour ago,,,IT's RED! So far so good,,just hoping the stain has not bled through the masking to the inlay.

Hey Roger,,,that beautiful figure still shows,,,has really "popped"

PICs added. A couple of small places to be touched up,,,so far very pleased,,,love that TransTint Stain/Dye,,,seems to have the same transparentcy whether light shades or dark.

Now for about 12-15 coats of nitro,,,then the waiting period,,,,

Making sure everything still fits while waiting for lacquer

Thanks Bruce,,,yes, the red one is what inspired me to finally build a new cabinet. Hopefully this one will be priced considerably less than that one.

That most definitely was the right color, Being there and seeing itt in person, I would bet the color pops out even more.

Sonny, Kudos to you.

Hey thanks Damir and Steve. I'm putting it back together now. Hopefully I can sell it ($2700-$2800 range) BEFORE I do a copedent set up so that it can be set up to the buyer's specs. I have the parts for a 7 pedal 6 knee lever set up.
