About a year and a half ago Buddy contacted me about a 12 string Sierra guitar that I had in stock saying that he'd conjured up a new C6 tuning that he was wanting to try and that the best sounding C6th he ever heard was from a Sierra 12 string that he no longer had. I told him that I feared the memory was like that of an old girlfriend and when you got her back you realized why you were no longer with her and that the model I had in stock wasn't the exact one that he recalled having and if we were to get what he recalled having we should find the same guitar or at least the same model. I contacted the guy that had that particular guitar and he was willing to give it back with the caveat that when Buddy was done with it he wanted it back. While Buddy was appreciative of that gesture he did not want to be beholding so I set about finding that same model and, when Kevin Ryan and I were on our way back from picking up all the Goodrich stuff from Georgia when we bought the company, we stopped by Austin and stayed with Bob Hoffnar (thanks again Bob for the great hospitality Smile). When I was relating Buddy's quest to Bob he put me in contact with a guy that had that model and was willing to sell it so I had him send it to the shop and went about putting Buddy's new setup on it as well as making a custom badge on the front in tribute to Buddy's wife- Peggy(aka "Cheeks")- whom he said had more to do with his continuing interest to play than anyone would ever know. Jay Dee said that we should deliver it to Buddy which we did in May of last year and Ron Elliott was there with Buddy to take delivery of it. Buddy passed away several months later and I attempted numerous times to contact the beneficiaries of the estate to see if I could get this guitar back and Dyke Corson put me in touch with the attorney handling the estate and he said he would let the beneficiaries know of my interest and that this was a gift from me to Buddy and I'd like to buy it back from the estate. I was told that Pat Severs was helping to liquidate some of the assets and I contacted Pat and told him that I'd like to get this guitar back and he said he would help if he could. Fast forward to about 6 weeks ago and I'd all but given up when Pat called and told me that the beneficiaries agreed to sell me back the guitar and I finally have it back at the shop. Not sure just what I am going to do with it just happy to have HIS mojo here for some time. Thanks Pat, Dyke, Bob, Ron, Kevin, and JayDee Smile.

Stu---sorry for your crappy day!
Jim--my only regret with this story is that someone didn't understand that the good karma way of dealing with this and of honoring Buddy would have been to gift it back to you. But I'm glad it is back on your hands.

Cool story Jim.

Interesting that Buddy was still fired up about getting the Sierra and set it up with a certain version of C6th, and what kept him motivated even though he was essentially retired was to do the thing with this steel because it was his late wife Peggy that inspired him to keep moving forward.

When he said he hadn't played since Peggy passed away he wasn't fibbing too much as virtually all of the pots in his amps and volume pedals were scratchy from dis-use and we took a number of volume pedals home and refurbished them for him.

I like that story and the way the steel community came together in order for you to get it back. Is it tuned to Buddy's experimental tuning?

Notice that P3 and P4 are the same as changes as the E9th A and B pedals. The top 2 strings are like the E9th strings, too.

It looks like Buddy was thinking of a truly Universal Tuning. Based on C6th.
An Innovator 'till the end.

Strings 8 & 9 both C. His great mind must have seen something here, especially with pedal 8.

Tony I was looking at that same thing. My mind would never have put unison strings on top of each other like that!
That's why I learned from him and not the other way around!!! Very Happy

The extra C is probably there for LKL, which raises it to D and gives you more of the E9th licks in the midrange. It's the equivalent of the E9th's 7th string F#.

If you put a D string in that position, it messes up some of the standard C6th chording. The Sacred Steel tunings also double the middle root note (E) and raise the first one to F#.
