Adjustable bridge on Stringmasters

The question was asked over on a Facebook group about why the bridges on Stringmasters are adjustable.

According to the Fender catalogue, it's so you can compensate for different string gauges but I'm not sure about the physics of that and have never had problems changing gauges on a non-adjustable bridge.

Has anyone gone between regular and bass tuning on a Stringmaster neck and did you need to adjust the bridge?

Fender did advertise the reason for adjustable as described , I have zero experience with that aspect.

In my open onion , I feel it has more to do with Fenders Manufacturing style, of how to slam on parts with any level of expertise, and have adjustable parts to adjust intonation. There is so much variation on placement of the Fret Board and so on, it makes it all go much faster and lower money cost.

The other aspect is Fender made most of their parts in house or near by sub vendors, at a time where Lathe and plate work was super low cost by today's standards.
