This kind of an experiment with slants using a high D string. The same notes are there two frets back on strings 2 (E) and 4 (A), but it's a little easier to hit them with the wider spread between string 1 (D) and 5 (G).

I'm not really interested in trying to make the lap steel sound like a pedal steel, but it's nice to know where this kind of stuff is just in case.

The Clinesmith is going straight from the volume pedal into a Silverface Princeton Reverb.

So this is C6 with a D on top instead of E? It sounds great! It really does sound a lot like a pedal steel. Gotta give this a try...

Sounds great Justin.
You sure can milk out the tone at the 24th fret and beyond. That is some tough ground to execute on.
Well done.

Thanks for watching and commenting. This steel has a usable tone way up the neck. It doesn't get shrill or plunky. The meaty sound makes it easier to play in tune, too - there's a good solid fundamental note so you always know where you are, and how far out of tune you are...

Really impressive. I've never had a steel that didn't lose lots of tone and sustain on the upper frets.

Great playing Justin.

The Aluminum Clinesmiths are just amazing steels. Great intonation all the way up the neck and they are sustain monsters.....seemingly endless.
