Quite a list came out of this thread!
One guy that I didn't see mentioned is JT Corenflos. Maybe because there aren't hardly any videos of him out there. I was on a session with him once and he just blew my mind all day long with his perfect execution and placement of each note he played. I've never seen a guitar player serve a song better.
Another guy is James Mitchell. Sounds to me like he's really angry about something when he's playing; and I like it. |

| Steve Wariner also plays a great Tele, and so does Jimmy Olander of Diamond Rio, Heath Wright-lead singer/guitarist for Ricochet also plays some great licks on a Telecaster, and I'm also a fan of Vince Gill's Tele playing. I think he played a lot of Teles on the Bakersfield record he did with Paul Franklin. Then, there's Ray Flacke, who played n Ricky Skaggs' band in the 80s. |

| Good to see a couple of mentions about Jim Messina. For me it was his work in Poco opposite Rusty Young. He was responsible for that driving buoyant, optimistic early poco sound that to my ears has never been heard since. |

I think the point here is we all know who the famous T-Pickers are, John 5, although he is not running in the same "Nashville " kinda circle, is a very well versed very talented guitar player. Probably most of us only associate him with "metal" or some other genre of music but at the end of the day the boy can play and as he shows, he can alter his style , finger pick or flat pick as he see's fit.

I don't think the OP is saying he is better than anyone else, I think what he is saying is here is another really talented player if you don't already know this. Before this thread I didn't know John 5 had this much versatility. Obvioulsy the kid has some very deep roots of music.
In this clip you can hear the influence of both Jerry and Chet.
And this, I couldn't agree more with Scott right above, Jimmy Messina still stands as my #1 influence . His early work with Poco and L+M set the bar for me. Not for flash but for the whole package . I wonder how many other well known pickers who are 15 or 20 years younger than JM have a touch of JM in their toolbox.

For all the goth, I liked the buckers in the Tele tone J5 got. Steve Piticco is in there with Paisley on melodic frenetics. Gill is too smooth to fool on Tele. Many Tele players end up shredding chicken pluck. Funny how the Tele does that to a player. Wonder what Leo was thinking? Many players who started as kids got an Esquire. Always thought that was cool and how lucky even though their parents thought of entry level benjamins, the guitar has charm.
