Howdy all!
I picked up a '55 Gretsch Duo Jet last weekend from an old picker, and he told me that he has something else that I may be interested in.
I know nothing about pedal steels...but it looked interesting, so I bought it.
Thoughts?

Wow!
Wright became Sierra. I think that's one of the later ones. And looks amazing. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

The CTS pots date to late '61...so if the pots are original to the instrument, it's post '61. |

I bet David Wright, the maker's son, will be along shortly.
I suspect that Chuck rebuilt it later, since the machinery looks more modern than the cabinet, but it looks Wright. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Yes, Lane, I suspect you are correct. It was likely updated underneath when the scale was shortened. _________________ Chris Lucker

I did not know Wright became Sierra.
A shame not to see the original underside.
They must've shortened the scale to get in the convenient carry handle. |

Looks like some parts came from the screen door repair section of an old hardware store. |

Hi Guys,
Many thanks to all who have chimed in! It's great to hear from the makers son especially, thanks David for your input! I was thinking of sending it to my friend Dale Fortune out in Oregon for restoration...but from the sound of things, it seems like it's too far from original to really put any kind of real money into it. Maybe it'll be better to put it in the hands of an enthusiast/player who over time can tinker with it and get it playable again?
No Roger, I don't have any other parts for it other than what's shown in the pictures.
I haven't plugged it in. I believe that the wires are cut. I'll have another look when I get back home later.
Thanks again to all! |
