All I can find is "E234" engraved on the aluminum plate which the pedal levers connect to, which doesn't correspond much to anything I've been able to find on the web for ZumSteel.
Research leads me to think that I've bought a "Stage One", but still can't find any info on the serial number. Anyone ?
( She's an S10, three pedals, four knee levers )

That is what became the Stage One. I don't know what the serial numbers mean.
Someone oughta ask Bruce. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

That is a Stage One model, probably built around 1998. It is the 234th one built. Likely assembled by Russ Wever or myself. The E stands for Economy model. |

Was it called the Stage One by then?
And one guy has E200, and was asking me the age. Can we assume 1997ish? _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

For an "economy model" it is a very well put together piece of kit, my compliments, and thanks very much for the info.
Would you happen to know if there is a "lift kit" that would fit on the guitar? Sort of thing I'd dare to attempt myself, but hardware parts are metric over here in the main.
Could always dig a hole in the living room floor for the volume pedal I guess. _________________ ZumSteel s10, Hudson 6, Duesenberg Pomona 6.

Richard, you would need a longer set of guitar legs to be able to raise the guitar. You might be able to have some non-adjustable ones made locally and re-use the threaded inserts in your current legs. Otherwise you need adjustable legs with the normal lift kit, including rod extensions.
They have always been called a Stage One. |

Thanks Doug, has actually just found rod extensions from the link above on this very site ( steelguitarshopper.com ), which was my major obstacle.
Can now think about doing something on the foot end of the legs, avoiding the threaded top, well, since I can't figure out how the threaded inserts have been attached to the chrome leg, can you just bash them out with a steel rod through the leg or something ? _________________ ZumSteel s10, Hudson 6, Duesenberg Pomona 6.

That is exactly how you do it. It is a good idea to drizzle some sort of oil down the inside of the leg first in hopes of loosening the plug. |

I made some leg extensions for a GFI student model with common hand tools from 3/4 inch heavy duty pipe and 5/8 inch treaded bolts. It wasn't easy. For one thing the threads were hard to get straight, but the hardest part was to get the legs to get tight at the same time the holes for the pedal bar were lined up. This system does not mutilate the guitar. It would be much easier if you just added leg extensions and drilled new holes for the pedal bar, but that would be ugly. I would it think it would be fairly simple for a machinist if he understood exactly what needed to be done. Of course by then you could probably have gotten a set of longer legs from Doug. |

Voice of reason.
Doug, if you are still following this thread, price for longer legs, and pedal rods ( +2 inches ) for a Stage One ( shipped to Europe ) ?
Four legs, three rods.
... and a hat, if you have them. _________________ ZumSteel s10, Hudson 6, Duesenberg Pomona 6.

I have the E200 Lane was talking about. I could be mistaken, but I went to Bruce's website, Zumsteel.com it had a serial number identification table, and it looked like the serial number 200 was built in 1983. |
