There are too many reports popping up in the past half hour for this to ba another another death hoax and it is apparently this time it's for real. I tried to get on Merle's website for confirmation, but it seems to have crashed - because no doubt thousands of others are trying to do the same thing.

I'm so glad that my wife and I were able to see him play in one of his last shows, here in Santa Rosa in February - it was the first time I'd seen him in many years. Though I hate to think his getting back on the road too soon after contracting double pneumonia made things much worse - and now this.

Now my two all-time favorite country singers are gone, Merle and Waylon.

And Merle - IMO one of America's greatest songwriters, regardless of genre.

Godspeed Merle

Really liked this outlaw.

He could've survived.

Said to have passed from a mystery flu. Got pneumonia.

Hospital won't say.

People be wary of flu shots. You can get Alzheimer's from them. They are spraying stuff in the air like Ethylene Dibromide. It attacks the respiratory system. Called the chemtrail flu.

We're not in Kansas anymore.

What a great catalog of super songs.

Godfrey

You could take ALL of the one hit wonders on today's rock/blues fake country radio, stand them end to end, and they still wouldn't reach high enough to kiss Haggard's behind. There's NO one who achieved his song writing and longevity. He sung to the last like George Jones before him. He didn't go and retire and count his money. I was lucky that I got to see him twice. Truly a legend of REAL country music.
Merle, thank you for your soulful heart felt real country music. I just performed it Saturday night with a neon sign in the window. You can rest in peace now. Your music will live forever.

For me this is truly the day that MUSIC DIED! No other artist in country music or any other has ever shaped my music like Merle Haggard. I have spent hundreds of hours listening to him and his Strangers on recording to and from gigs, and spent hours learning his songs and Nichols licks.
