I have an Emmons SKH D10 8X5 that is labeled Legrande...no I, II, III or such. It also has no serial number on the end plate. Wondering if anyone knows what it is. I understand the Legrandes were started in '81? Wondering if this is possible some kind of prototype or what. Appreciate any insight anyone might have on it. Thanks.

Okay, thanks. That's what I was thinking, but I wonder why there is no serial number? Any thoughts?

First guess: the endplate needed replacement.

Mine just says "LeGrande" and the volume pot in it was made in 1984.

Now I don't know this to be factual but it is said that the SKH's were the left over PP bodies ,as the PP is just a tad shorter than the full size Legrande series.

Is there a major difference ? I dunno ...

Alan, even if the end plate has been replaced, the cabinet may have a serial number stamped on it. Mine is on the bottom of back apron on keyhead end. A friend also has one and his is the same with serial stamped on cabinet.

Looks like marker on the end plate with 85 on it...must be 1985?

Alan, it's probably number 85. Is there an L after the number? If it is, it's the 85th one made, probably an 82 model. Mine's 191L and it's an 82 or around about.

LeGrande bodies are different in several ways to the original. No guitars have ever left the factory w/o serial numbers. There have been reports of certain persons removing serial numbers. The separation between Emmons and Lashley is multi facetted and truth lies between them. I suspect the missing number issue mentioned has more to do with a few missing invoices. Keep in mind that Ron prevailed in the litigation and was honorable enough to drop it.
