I think the beauty of the cast aluminum Clinesmith is that it can be anything you want it to be. Great for traditional sounds, great for modern sounds. Takes to effects pedals really well, or straight through the amp.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. That's a brighter tone than I'd usually go for - ice pick territory for other guitars - but I think it's actually totally usable with this steel.
Rick, it's just C6 with a high G. I've been experimenting with string gauges and have some lighter ones on top now and heavier ones on the bottom right now: 11, 14, 18, 22w, 28, 32, 38, 50.
Mike, I agree it's a versatile axe. It does well with high gain and fuzz - has a kind of strat-like sound that doesn't get muddy too fast and keeps dynamics longer than other guitars. I've also had some good results running it into the audio input of a Moog Sub 37. |
