Hello all.
since i live outside the US I cant find Pedal steel teacher.
The biggest issue is the technique.
I filmed myself playing the very beginning of my blocking learning proccess.
I tried to film my hand so you can see my right hand technique.
ill be happy to get some feedback.
Thanks a lot!

I would say pretty much. The idea is to replicate what the dampers in a piano do, so your hand starts and finishes on the strings. Next step to try is instead of short notes with long gaps, play at the same speed but long notes with short gaps and see if it's still as clean.
Others may chime in and correct me, but good luck with pedal steel - you will never get bored. _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

Ben, check with Customs people to see if they put a hold on the package. I sent it to your address over a month ago.
I have the postal receipt and Custom Declaration with tracking numbers that I can send to you if you need them. |

I agree with Ian. Looks good. The only thing I would have you work on if you were my student, is getting to where you don't lift your palm that high. But there is nothing wrong withwhat you are doing if it works for you. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, NV400, NV112 . Isn't Rani Platek in Israel? I think we have a Fo'Bro in Israel at any rate. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Looks pretty good.... your hand is a little less curled than the classic Newman hand shape, and I'm guessing, by the angle of your hand across the strings, that your elbow may be sticking out a bit. Don't go crazy, there is a range of hand positions that will work. There are a number of threads on the Forum debating proper right hand technique.
The Newman hand....

You have your ring finger and pink curled, which works good for a lot of players, but you may also try if it feels ok to extend those fingers. See which way feels the most natural.
At this moment I would say that the vertical movement of your hand is a bit to much, the edge of your hand should be much closer to the strings, but with practice you will refine yourself. _________________ ----------------------------------

Looks great. Push your thumb pick farther back so it isn't covering your nail. You might really prefer that after a bit.
Take it back. Your thumb is fine, might move away bit from the bridge for a fatter tone. _________________ I need an Emmons! |

Just relating a lesson I learned----most of the concentration of these exercises is on the blocking---the suppression of ringing strings. It can be good to add to your routine the picking of long notes. Work on good tone of long sustained notes by playing long note, short block, long note, short block.
The short note picking/blocking can mask the possibility that the notes are still partially muted when they are picked. When intentional, this is a note shaping thing. But if unintended, it can prevent the full bloom of a note.
This is something I discovered in my own picking. |

I block with my ring finger. You might want to try curling it under and blocking with it. Seems like less effort than palm blocking. _________________ A couple D-10s,some vintage guitars & amps, & lotsa junk in the gig bag. |

And if you curl it under, you can "bang" the string off the fingernail of the ring finger for a Tele-like bark. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
