my E string tuning key is loose. is there a trick to tightening it up? I know there's two little screws that holds it to the head, but I tried the smallest screwdriver I had, but can't get it to turn because it hits the key itself. will it hurt it to put another string on it, if I don't get it tightend?

Could be the set screws on the outside, in which case you'll need a screw/nut/allen driver with an L-bend in the shaft.

Also check the nut/washer combo around the post for tightness.

I forgot to say I have an Emmons short keyhead. mine has little screws(regular slotted screws), one to each key. the
only way I see to do it is take the first
three off, to be able to get to the fourth
screw. is this right? anybody know?

never mind, I got it. I had to take the first three keys off to get to the fourth key screw.
