May I ask what the dimension is from the floor to the bottom of your Steel Guitar.
How far back is it from your belly button to the back of the Steel Guitar...
Ergonomics are important. |

The ergonomic question is how far are your shoulders and hips from the back of the guitar. Where the belly button positions itself is part genetic, part lifestyle...

Too bad you didn't answer the question for me.
I think I'm going to have to alter the length of my guitar legs, I was just asking the crowd for a random sample. |

Sorry, Charley, I'm not a whole step ahead of you but you've made me realise what needs measuring. The stomach clearance is easy to measure but the other things are harder and there's no-one around to help me at the moment except the dog who is not a massive PSG fan.
26" or so seems to be an average underneath measurement but it obviously doesn't suit everyone. Bear in mind that there are two sorts of tall people, those with long legs and those with long vertebrae (and I suppose a third kind with both). I am average height and build but with quite long arms, so for them to be comfortable I want to sit well back but then I'm not secure on the levers. I must make an effort to nail these parameters. I've built one guitar that suits me (just about) but I would like the next one to suit as many people as possible.

I've deveoped a technique called "belly blocking" that works great on the lower strings. |
