Bob I was reading your article on the c scale tuning and was wondering if you have ever tried it out with a pedal steel? I am building a pedal steel guitar and thinking about using the c scale tuning like you wrote about , just building the guitar for this tuning exclusively , do you have any more info on this ? thanks Russ.

I think maybe because b0b may have not seen it yet. He has a lot of ground to cover policing this Forum, so I would give it a couple of days at least. Not everyone visits every day or looks at every single post. Be patient.

My 2 cents, YMMV.

I would love to try that. I've played around a little with Jerry Byrd's diatonic tuning and it's pretty mind-blowing without any pedals. I can't imagine that the pedals would have the immediate gratification that they have on normal setups though... Just remembering back to the little I dabbled with the C tuning, there is a lot to learn just to start "getting around".

Sorry I didn't see this sooner. I wrote the article in 1995. At that point I had put the tuning on a 10-string BMI. I want to point out that my comments about E9th in the article were ignorant. I've learned a lot since then.

Anyway, the C Scale copedent quickly evolved into F Diatonic, which I used for the Diatonic Adventures album in 1999-2000. Here is that copedent:

10 string F Diatonic

12 string F Diatonic

I no longer use a diatonic tuning.
