I tell you guys I played a 1975 Emmons pp today
that a friend has here in the area and these guitars are tone monsters!!
worth every penny far as im concerned.....
this one is nice

thanks Mike, these old wood neck Emmonses  have to be one of the best sounding steels out there, if not the best, this one has a lots of character, feels great and has that vintage vibe about it.... you can even smell the history when you open the case, it has that old instrument feel to it... I love it ... finish is showing the age of the guitar as well, which only adds to the whole vintage charisma of this old Emmons...this guitar has been sitting under the bed for a decades I believe... and it's ready to take its place on the stage once again...

yeap I agree they have that bell tone that others don't have
I had one like yours in 1987-88 man I wish I had kept that one it was a monster guitar...

I can't make up my mind which guitar to keep, lol, JCH or this 75 push pull, both awesome guitars, I guess whichever sells first, I'll be keeping the other one... and then there is that gorgeous blonde Sho~Bud too ... wish I was a rich man, I would have kept all 3 of them...

thanks my friend, it is very charming, it has a lots of character, and it definitely wasn't a safe queen... it is a players guitar, plays as easy and smooth as any all pull I ever tried... I don't know how to explain it, but it has that charisma about it, it's not just another guitar... looking at it, I get a feeling that is a special guitar, and with lots of stories to tell... just something about this guitar that I like a lot, I don't know...

That is one beautiful guitar. Love those keystone Klusons. I recently saw a similar guitar that Keith Hilton was playing in Branson and that thing absolutely had tone to burn.
What's the story on this particular wood neck/bolt-on combination? The pedals appear to be the later (mid-to-late'70s?) narrow cast type and the tuners are generally associated with the late-70s early-'80s guitars, but the bolt-on changer was generally from the late '60s. Is it also a fat back? Whatever it is, it's a killer combination.

Drew, I'll chime in for Damir, he's probably playing that Emmons, lol.
That is a 75 which has the correct pedals for that era. They continued making the bolt ons in the 70's but they were all wood necks, so, all wood neck Emmons are bolt on. There may be a few exceptions. The metal neck bolt ons were discontinued in the late 60's I think. Don't know the reason for sure but heard that there was some tuning problems with the metal necks due to temperature change but also read that that was also solved.
I have a 75 bolt on that is mica but it has wood necks and same tuners and pedals that Damir's has. It is also a fat back. There are no tuning issues with these, they stay right on the money. I also don't know when they quit making fat backs but must have been late 70's. My bolt on plays and sounds like a million bucks, someone can't go wrong with this guitar.

Thanks, Henry and Damir. There was obviously a good reason why they chose that particular combination. If I didn't already have two great push-pulls, I'd be all over that one like a cheap suit!

Unless it was a custom job, bolt-on's were the standard changer for wood neck Emmons'. And most, if not all, laq p/p's from that era were fatbacks.
I had a new '76 Loafer that color...same inlay & tuning pegs. Cool gtr...sold it...not so cool.
What's really nice about this one is that the finish hasn't faded over the years to that greyish/brownish that you see alot on older laq p/p's. |
