Raise hooks; brand new batch just in from Emmons: .055, as currently being installed on Mike Johnson's p/p.
I wish I could do that Dave but not sure how it might come across to some...not to mention that its still hard to talk about The Chief and not choke up. I can tell you though that he was one funny cat! You ride with him in his pickup truck for a trip to Whattaburger and he'd have you splittin' a gut in no time flat...a million stories, and all of 'em true And oh, how he loved Buddy! |

I had to revive this post. Thanks Abe for starting it. I too am rebuilding my first PP and learning tons, taking my time to get it exactly right. I have excessive movement in my rebuilt E9 changer so I'll need to add a shim to get it right. This is a good thread on the topic. Is there a source to buy those shims? |

It has been my experience that no matter how tightly you attempt to shim the slop out of an Emmons changer you will not be successful. The problem is generally in the finger and it needs to be addressed. You can minimize it by shimming and rounding the ends of the end plate screws so they don't grab the finger and pull it sideways but the proper fix is either to replace the finger or enlarge the axle and ream the fingers and pillow blocks to the new size. |
