A couple times a year, local Ontario steel players meet for a Men of Steel get-together
Very informal and great sounding steel all 5 of them. The steelers, from left are: Ed Ringwald(Peewee Charles), Dale Rivard, Mike Weber, Doug Dietrich and Doug Johnson The bearded man behind Mike is the fiddle player, Dan Howlett. Mikes brother, Paul Weber, supplied the bass and song. Here is a link to a song they played, with Doug Johnston kicking it off and clockwise taking turns.

Now there's a bunch of talent!
Thanks for posting, Bent.
I'd have paid to be there and watch that.
Best wishes to my Canadian pals.

The first one sounded so much like Lloyd Green, including his TONE and bar technique.

THANKS so much for sharing this great session with all of us.

Lee,it will happen again likely in August or so. If you make the trip you will be my guest of honor!

Ray, you nailed it. That first player was Doug Johnson, to the right in the pic. He does sound like Lloyd a bit, plus like a few others, plus definitely like himself. He is a very talented player. The one highest in demand for session work here in Ontario.
Doug also is part of Gene Watson's Farewell Party band whenever Gene comes to Canada.

By the way, the player in the black shirt, behind Peewee, is none other than Dale Rivard. A super talented player who does some steady gigs with a band and also does a lot of freelancing with different bands/singers all over Ontario. Dale is also my number one guy...He comes and test drives every BenRom steel guitar that I build

Hi Bent,
Thank you for the kind invitation!
I'll let you know if I can ever get up your way.
It would be great to meet you and to sit back and listen to those guys pick.
I'd also love to see and try one of your guitars one of these days.

Please pass my regards along to your 'number one guy' Dale.
I finally had the pleasure of meeting him and hearing him a couple of years ago.
What a nice guy and wonderful player!
Lee

Tom, here you go:
Doug Johnson kicks it off
Ed(Peewee) comes in at 2:50
Dale at 5:00
Then Dale and Ed do a harmony at 5:56
Then Dan Howlett on the fiddle at 7:15
Mike Weber at 9:25
Doug Dietrich at 11:35
Doug Johnson ends it, starting at 13:45

Dog Johnson played his MCI thru a Benado into a Nash 112
Ed played his new Rittenberry Prestige thru a 112, no outside effects
Dale played his Carter thru a 112, no outside effects
Mike Weber played a '79 Sho-Bud LDG, amp unknown but believe it was Peavey of some kind
Doug Dietrich played a Carter thru a 112 I believe it was.

Lee, any time you would come by this next year, I will most likely have a steel on the work bench Smile

Dale is everything you say and then some. He is a pro and secure in his own abilities. At the same time, he is a very humble and kind human being. He knows the hard work it took to get to where he is today.Even as good as he is, he still takes lessons when he has a chance. A while back he took a C6th lesson from Buck Reid.
Yep,,,Dale is a class act!
