Hey all, b0b asked me if I wanted to let everyone know about our new Pedal Slide in this category ... and of course I said yes. So, here's the scoop, Gaylan Moushon and I have invented a new type of slide/bar. For the last 40+ years, I've been a guitar player / inventor, but not a Pedal Steel or Lap or Resonator player. I've always wanted too, but I could never rap my head around that crazy Pedal instrument (how y'all do is beyond me lol). I didn't play lap steel because I couldn't ever play what I wanted to play with just a bar. So, I had an idea for a device that would solve that problem.

For me, there was quite a bit of a learning curve to using it, but I'm slowly getting there. The only tuning I understand is an open E, but I see where alt tunings such as C6th would really open up using the Pedal Slide. And Pedal Steelers are always looking for one more knee lever or pedal, so I think there's potential there as well.

Anyway, give it a look and if you have any questions let me know. So far, sells have been overwhelming. We sold out of our first production within days of its release. Our next production will be ready to ship out the first week of March. We'll have a limited supply so it is first come first served.

Sounds useful. I'd like to hear from some steel players who have used it. What's the reach to the right and can you use it while playing chords in which you would want to alter the upper three strings?

Yes Scott, I hadn't thought of that when I ordered it. We'll see how it interacts with 8, 10 and 12 strings, which usually like a round nose.

You have to move the bar toward you when you use the extension on the lower strings. If getting it back to the upper register is "snaggy", then we have a problem. That's not an issue on the 6 string, as Tim's video ably demonstrated.

I'll field test it next week, maybe on a gig (!)

Another solution is to have the cam assembly attached to an existing bar of the players choice. It looks like a plate with screws.

In any event, the concept has been floating around in my mind for a couple of years. I've tried putting various metal circular objects on my thumb and forefinger to get some hammer ons and extra notes. Not practical.

This invention seems to be an elegant solution in its early stages of use. I think the extension arm would give players more options in the 3 and 4 note voicing department, as well as bridging the melodic gaps found in all tunings, adding suspensions and non harmonic notes.

It could add new desirable personality characteristics to the steel sound. Something a therapist might proscribe for his neurotic bar clients.
