Topic: National New Yorker Replica Build? |

Thinking about (loosely) replicating a National New Yorker. Probably without the hidden pups, but I'm not sure. Has anyone else done this? And, how hard is it to obtain a drawing or specs? I have fished around the net without much success, although one guy used pictures to get the scale he wanted. What other challenges can I expect?

When you get a little further along, We can help you with some of the Plastic Parts, Fret Board in particular, Control cover for the rotary and such.
I've made parts of other rebuilds and retro similar-s of these - cool instruments.
About the Wood, Poplar works much easier than the maple and takes paint quite well too.
Soft Maple is a good choice too if you plan to paint it black.
Figures - flames will obviously be great and IMHO be amazing in the New Yorker shape.
Maple is harder and slightly brighter tone.

Steel guitar has such a rich history and so much cool stuff to draw inspiration from. The New Yorker is a classic and should be a fun build. I often borrow heavily from the greats that went before me. This version of my Deco model was heavily New Yorker influenced, though with my own thoughts and twists mixed in. In any event, I'd say build what you want and make it your own. Get some poster board and draw it out full scale to work out your proportions and overall feel / look.

Thanks for the input thus far. I have chosen a piece of hard maple, but that can always be set aside for another build. Yes Tom that is a gorgeous guitar. I remember you from the Tele forum. We spoke on there a couple years back.

Part of the charm, at least to me, of the New Yorker is its contrasting black and white motif. These colors accentuate the art deco styling. Yes black and white.
