| I purchased a Mullen Discovery two years ago. Love it! With that and a lot of tips and lessons by Mickey Adams, I have made much progress. Now playing with some good players, I have noticed that the lower strings, especially the E is flat past the 12'th fret. I try a slight slant but wonder if a new temper tuning would help. I temper Newman, with 10 cents + sometimes a little less. |

Does the harmonic at the 12th fret line up with the fret marker ?

You may just be having basic intonation issues. It usually takes 2 years of serious practice and playing to even begin to hear what in tune is. At first it is very disconcerting when your ears learn to focus and you notice the more subtle levels of tuning.

I tried a little less preasure on the bar. That helps.
I play violin and my single string pitch is good. The skill that I am working very hard on is getting the bar set for pitch on three strings when in wide grips. |

I'm glad it's not just me. I've been playing a similar length of time and I also play trombone so my single-note pitching is OK and I reckon I'm pretty good at keeping the bar parallel. I think my instinct is to lean on the fatter strings in case they buzz, but they're prone to go sharp especially near the centre of the guitar. I've been working on Streets of Laredo from the Winston book which uses wide 3-note grips. It's making me careful to balance the nose and tail of the bar.

Thanks for sharing. Good to know that I am not the only one
that enjoys the process of learning to play this beautiful instrument. Retired drummer sometimes fiddle player, dedicated to playing the steel. learning Eagles tunes. Hotel California is where I realized I needed some advise on keeping three notes in pitch past the 12'th. |
