Finally (i clicked 'just this time, please') and was hoping to hear that all morning.

It occurred to me that Mr. Emmons and Jaco Pastorius had so transcended accomplishing scales that they were already riffing on scales 5 minutes into practice as youths. Wow.

I love to watch this man.

Chris I., on the contrary, many people who worked with Leo in the early days have been quoted as saying he liked Hawaiian music and wanted to bring the sustain of the steel to the standard guitar.

One example ... From Fender the Sound Heard 'Round the World by Richard Smith, page 65:

Quote:
A tone without fluff, the Leo Fender tone, cut through the noise in a bar like a saber cut through gelatin. Fender steels possessed this tone, and Leo wanted his standard guitars to sound like his steel guitars.

thanks for that info andy. i'm not knocking it. as far as i'm concerned, if the development of the solid body electric guitar had stopped with the early teles, i'd have been satisfied.

can anyone change the format on the emmons clip to make it more accessible?

Or just buy Mike's book which, besides including all the full-length video clips on DVD that are teased on the website. The 333 Book is a really useful compendium of licks, techniques and ideas for anyone who plays standard guitar. All styles and genres are covered. The Emmons, Robinson, Aldridge, Tronzo and Jernigan video interview/performances alone are worth the price of admission.
