I have a Fessenden D-10, not sure of the age. No serial number, but script logo. The cross shafts on this guitar seem to be painted with silver paint. Is this the way they come new, or have these been painted by a previous owner over the years. Thinking about stripping the paint, and polishing them, simply because I just don't have enough to do already Whoa!

By the looks of the bottom of the guitar, I would say they were painted.

I know they are painted now, just trying to figure out who painted them, original or later in life.

Here's a picture of my Fessenden, about the same vintage I think. The paint looks factory-applied... I think this means that the part is steel, not stainless or aluminum... I'd leave that paint on, were I you. Jerry put it there for a reason... it might even help with rattling, or screw retention.

Thanks Stephen. Good points for not refinishing. They are just looking a little rough where pullers have been moved over the years. Probably just leave them as is.

I have a Fessy. I think the primary reason is to inhibit corrosion.
