Howdy friends, I've kicked around the idea of having six knee's on my extended E9th 12 string BMI. The 6th would be an inside on RKL. I called Don Fritche up, Owner of BMI, and He suggested making it an inside on LKL because of the volume pedal. So I
ordered a whole bunch of parts from Don including
another floor pedal kit for the Franklin changes.
I got it all installed yesterday. For those of you
who are interested my change on the inside LKL is
raising strings 1 and 2 a whole tone and a half tone respectively. On my RKL I raise 1 and 7 a half tone in case your wondering why the 1+2 change is not there. As usual Dons parts fit like a glove. I will try and upload some pictures of it for those of you that are interested in BMI'S. Any other suggestions? I don't understand "inside" & "outside".
The critical position is for the lever that is further from the player. The lever should be very close to the edge of the knee, so that you can hit it or miss it with a minimum of butt-wiggling.
In my case I normally hit the LKL lever that is further from me (raising E strings a half step), and once in a while I pull away from the guitar for the other LKL. A lot of guys do it the other way.
On some guitars I'm currently in the process of moving that lever a little further away from me so that I don't have to move back so far away from the guitar to miss it. |

This may help. E raises are on the back apron knee lever. Inside knee is the new changes on strings 1 and 2. The distance between the two left knees is 3-3/4 inches T.L.

Lee, what's the pedal spacing on that guitar? (if it's no trouble ) _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

IAN; The inside measurement from pedal to pedal is 1-3/4 inches. I was wondering If anyone else had any changes
for the inside LKL, other than my present setup. Sorry, Lee - I asked the wrong question. What I meant was the pitch, the distance from one pedal rod to the next. Looks like about 2½" but these things interest me. _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

Inside lkl I use string 4 up a whole tone. It's really just a nudge fwd to get it, the outside lever is already raising 4&8 a 1/2 step. I tried this with a half stop first, and honestly like the half stop better. The inside lkl could certainly be used in many ways. I like having it available |

Say,that's really neat Bill, I assume you use it with the AandB pedals down. I tried that with those pedals down and raise E on pedal C with my right foot to duplicate what I think your doing. Nice sound. Incidently what make steel guitar do you play.

Lee I went through a time whenever I thought I had to try (quote the late Don Rich) "ever lick and trick there are..." Which is kind of a mistake for me. So when I was really serious about copying Tom Brumley, I added those staggered knees. I never got comfortable with the inside outside thing on my right knee but I kept that change on the left knee for a long time. It was on Emmons Legrande, and MCI. I got it half stopped on one lever now on lkl. The half stop just raises 4 and 8 to F, then full travel up to F#. This on a EMCI I just got from Steve Takacs. I will eventually put it on its own lever like I used before. And yes with AB down you can get a aug and then a 6th once you pull up a whole tone. |

Why not set up a "Crawford Cluster" ? That would minimize butt wiggling _________________ D.S. Rigsby |

Wouldn't that maximize butt wiggling? |

I would think so, Earnest. Although, I have 2 LKL levers, and do very little butt wiggling. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, NV400, NV112 . Playing for 54 years and still counting. |

Bill, I had my eye on that EMCI also. Good luck
with it. Oh by the way Bill, is it a triple raise, triple lower instrument. Lee it's a very good emci. It needs some tlc and I got it sounding pretty good
I didn't have to change much I did move some stuff around on the c6 and now I'm tweaking on half stops and splits.
Yes it's a triple triple changer.
It has 1st gen geo l pickups. Surprisingly nice. Imagine it had bl705 originally. This one was one of the last Arlington made guitars I believe. It's a keeper |

ah..finally. my lkl 2 also lowers g# to f#.
interestingly enough, the crawford cluster still didn't have the 1st and 2nd string raises so popular now. i still haven't bothered with that since there is plenty i still don't know about the older style tuning. |

Yeah, I figured that John. One thing with this BMI,
Is the LKL has to travel quit a bit to pull F# to G#.
about the limit of its travel. Might be the dynamics of the flat cross bar I guess. What is the make of the steel in the picture John?
