Hey Jim, I just took a look at the schedule (http://www.hsga.org/festival.htm) and it looks like I'm playing right before you on Fri. morning.
I'm bringing my "Surf-waiian" with the Aiello pup. |

I saw that, Garry. Look forward to it! Don't worry, there's no chance your followup act will outshine you in any way!
I didn't realize when I made my reservations that things started at the beginning of the day Thursday. I ended up changing my flight to get in on Wednesday night instead of Thursday afternoon. _________________ "The Masher of Touch and Tone"

What a wonderful convention ...
Attendance was way up, the hotel was beautiful, the stage room sound was perfect (mucho Mahalos Paul H) ... All with a backdrop of giant mountains ...
Jeff Au Hoy was mind bogglin' ... incomparable ... nonpareil
I can't pick one favorite part ...
Cruisin' up to Estes Park with Jeff Kearns, Kamaka Tom & Jeff AH was awful cool ... Meeting the new attendees & forum friends ... The concert on Saturday night in Loveland ... Seein' my ol' buddies again ... Ed Punua and his dad performing ... Wow
I'm still having memories just pop up, too much fun in too short of a time period for this tired mind to process ..
But there is one thing I'm crystal clear on ... The single greatest song performance that has EVER been on an HSGA stage ... came when our fellow forum member ... Garry Vanderlinde ... Played the surf tune "Pipeline"
What fun .... Thanks to Chris Kennison and Tony Fourcroy for putting on such a fine show
PS I did get a video of Jeff AH playing my new cast steel & amp combo ... That was way up there on my bucket list ... ... I'll be posing that soon |

I had a blast! It was fun seeing old friends and making new ones. I hadn't seen Gary Vanderlinde since 1984! Jeff Au Hoy blew me away! He just keeps getting better and better. I loved the venues, and Chris and Tony did, indeed, put on a great convention. I'm for going back to Ft. Collins next year. See y'all (I hope) on Oahu next April. I REALLY recommend the Maui Steel Guitar Festival in April, too. _________________ Jack Aldrich

Doubly reiterate Rick A's comments, plus: Rick Aiello is one of the most entertaining humans around. Especially at 9am on a Saturday...
Garry's trip to surf city was really great!
I'm very happy that there can only be one "first time" on the HSGA stage, since I'd never want to repeat that performance. I felt like I had boxing gloves on and the fretboard disappeared at about the third note in the set. Many thanks to Jeff, Gerald, and Mark for doing their best to keep me from drowning. HSGA members are very supportive and I feel like they're family now. _________________ "The Masher of Touch and Tone"

Alright, My first Rocky Mt. high Denver was no Joliet, but I think we can all be grateful for that.
This was a great experience. Where else can you mingle with the Hawaiian pros and old timers and get to play your own set too?
Had a great time with my friends Rusty, Jack, Jim,Tony, Jeff, Kay Das, Kamaka and especially Rick Aiello.
In my set I'd finish playing a song and be thinking..."I really f'd that one up" and there was Rick jumping up and down, waving his arms encouraging me on.
Thanks man!
Chris Kennison and cohorts did a great job of putting this on and I hope they do it again next year.
The Hilton was fantastic. The staff was very friendly and the buffet was excellent. |
