I would love to see Sonny Curtis be in the Hall of Fame. He is in "my" Hall of Fame. Sonny is one of the nicest guys I have ever known in the music world and a friend that I wish I could visit with much more often than I have been able to. He plays great but I would challenge anyone to try to play his guitar. A and B pedals engaged he has "E", release them and he has "A". That is definitely "Hall of Fame" stuff in itself. He surely didn't copy anyone.

I nominated Sonny several years ago and have beat the drum to no avail ! He played on A-11 for crying out loud ! He's such an awesome guy and a really good friend. Maybe the powers that be will see fit to induct him into the HOF........
BTW.....I can barely play my own guitar much less try to play Sonny's LOL

| I agree also. Sonny is so smooth and so great!! He played for the king & queen of country music. He should have been in the hall of fame years ago. |

I applaud the sentiment, George, but, just to be clear, it doesn't take "this" at all (online supportive commentary). What it does take is a very detailed formal submission to the SGHOF board, nominating Sonny, and detailing his major accomplishments in support of his nomination. Now, someone may have already done that and his name may be already under consideration (I wouldn't know), but if not, then that is what needs to happen. Whether there is any online chat about it or not makes no difference whatsoever (though it's always nice to see...)

Sonny Curtis long over due -
Sonny Curtis has some serious history behind him:
He was among the first to play an early Sho-Bud double neck on the road professionally, it was natural and green stained necks. You can see it on the Jones Boys instrumental album (33rpm Vinyl) featuring the Jones Boys Band and, also on one of the first Sho-Bud brochures printed back in the early 60's. They even recognized him and his guitar! Secondly, he had the 3rd Emmons push/pull D-10, 8, when he was with Jones and it didn't even have knee levers on it yet! It was the Emmons Stereo model! He also has a vast history, and was the driving force in introducing the Clark Custom Guitars, taking them throughout the continental USA, and abroad. Another note, Sonny plays "backward" to the rest of us, meaning, he LOWERS into E where we raise from E to A. How many players can any of us think of, that can play that type setup and make it sound right, yet he has mastered this technique! When Johnny Paycheck cut A-11, Sonny was right there doing the steel breaks on that legendary cut!
Someone ought to take the time and visit with him! You might be in for the surprise of your life! He's definitely a superb player, and a gentlemen on top of that! He is long over due, I just hope it happens to him when he is still able to be here and enjoy it! |

I believe Ernie Hager told me he plays backwards like Sonny. I won't get into the Sonny should be in HOF thing. I got jumped on the last time I commented.
