The two adjustment screws on each side of the pickup
seem to bind and "seize" up. They govern the height of the wrap around magnet I presume. Does anyone have a basic approach to help with getting this right?
Ray, Rick...I'm sure there are others.
Here's a pic.

Thank you for any guidance on this.

I think the Ricky pickup adjusting mechanism is beautifully simple and robust. Those two height adjustment screws are welded to the metal plate that supports the pickup. A spring around each screw creates the tension regulated by the two thumb screws on top.

After removing the strings, the entire pickup assembly can be carefully lifted out as far as the attached wires will allow. Just remove the two small side "tabs" screws on each side of the pickup. Then the thumb screws and tension springs can be removed.

Binding can occur if one side is cranked down much further than the other. If that isn't the case, I would remove the springs, inspect them, and give them a good bath in WD40 or similar cleaner to remove any corrosion. I would also clean the threads with solution and a soft toothbrush. Inspect the threads to see if there is any damage due to cross-threading or another reason.

With everything visible, it's easy to do a test assembly and thread the thumb screws on the adjusting screws up and down to look for any problems.

There really isn't a lot that can go on there, unless there is thread damage, or some clearance problem with the free travel of the pickup assembly due to some obstruction in the body housing.
