Bought in 1950, my CG came with a home made pedal which allows me to raise the 2nd and 3rd string on the outer neck from the E tuning to the A tuning as done in "Slowly". Depressing the pedal pulls the rod/yoke down, which pushes up on two bars inserted through the drilled peghead casting. Through drilled holes in those bars, the strings are inserted through the (yellow) teflon tubing (see Pic 4)to lessen friction. Over-travel of the movement is prevented by two (see front)adjustment bolts which hit the bottom of the guitar. Return action provied by the two large springs (see one in the right of Pic 3). Works well. The chap who did it was a machineist for an aircraft co. Ask if you need any details of the beast!!! The Pics are on website: http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/rout_geo/lst?.dir=/Gibson+Console+Grand+With+Pedal&.src=ph&.order=&.view=t&.done=http%3a//photos.yahoo.com/

Don't know what happened, but this should work again....Geo

George,
I could'nt get your link to work, would like very much to see how close your setup was to mine.
I owned a Gibson Console Grande,7 strings top neck,8 on bottom,it had a similar setup.A pencil sharpener was used for the pivot with two rods thru the body, and a rod to the floor, this was in the mid 50s.

The link works ok now, yours is a little more elaborate than what was on mine.Looks like it would stay in tune better.
