Tone Fundamentals By Brad Sarno
Starting at 11am Friday August 29th in Scotty’s Display Room

A walk thru some basics of the signal path beginning at the pickup, using buffers (or not), pot volume pedals vs active types, preamplifiers and what they do, how they all differ, amplifier stages, speakers, impedance, cabinets, etc. We will open a forum for discussion about the many variables and many approaches. A demonstration of various pieces of Sarno Music Solutions gear and a discussion about how they each address the various issues of pedal steel amplification.

Please come join us in Scotty's room - Friday morning 11am.

The plan is to discuss the signal path of a steel guitar rig beginning at the pickup and all the way thru to the speaker. We'll touch on some obvious (for some) fundamentals but will also discuss some more nitty-gritty electronics along the way too. There's a lot that affects the tone at each step in the path. Please come with questions too.

After the talking, I plan to have some gear set up there to demonstrate a lot of the principles discussed. And if you have your guitar at the show, maybe bring it with you and plug it into some of our SMS gear to really get a sense of it all.

Thanks,
Brad

I wanted to thank everyone who attended the "Tone Fundamentals" seminar in Scotty's room. I really enjoyed getting to talk shop with so many other steeler, tone enthusiasts. There were lots of great questions and conversations that came out of it. And Al Brisco had some great input and sage wisdom to share as well. Very grateful for his contribution. And thanks to Fred Rushing for volunteering to play some steel guitar for us to demo some of the various pieces of gear.

I plan to clean up and edit my seminar notes and make them available for download on our site. I'll update here to let people know when the notes become available.

Thanks Again everyone, and a special thanks to Scotty's for the warm invitation and the great space in which to make it happen!!

Brad,
I wanted to attend, but had to be
on the Mainstage during that time.
I'll look forward to your notes
when you make them available.
Thanks for your expertise.
