I was listening to The Golden Age of the Grand Ole Opry on WSM. Roy Acuff was talking about a Sho Bud steel that Shot Jackson built with 36 strings. He had Hal Rugg demonstrate it by playing Beautiful Dreamer. It sounded almost like two steels being played at once. I have never heard of such an instrument before, and wondered if anyone has any information on it.  |

Funny thing, I remember listening to the GOO back in the mid-60's and hearing Roy Acuff saying "here's Harold Rugg playing his 16-string Sho-Bud instrument." I don't remember if he played Danny Boy or Beautiful Dreamer, but I'm certain I'm quoting Acuff correctly. It seemed kinda weird to me then that he didn't say "steel guitar."
It was, of course, a double-strung 8-string tuning, of which SB made more than a few, I think.
I know of a 38-string Sho-Bud instrument in CA, an 11-11-16.
